Coach Aminu D. Nartey – Advancing Ghana’s Technical Excellence in Judo

The continued rise of judo in Ghana is driven by committed technical leaders whose expertise contributes to the international recognition and development of the sport. One such pioneer is Ghanaian judo coach Aminu D. Nartey, whose work represents an important milestone in Ghana’s technical contribution to global judo.

In March 2018, Coach Aminu D. Nartey achieved a historic distinction by becoming the first Ghanaian judo coach to serve as an examiner for prospective black belt candidates in the Nage no Kata (1st Dan) course held at Ippon Judo Club in Manchester, United Kingdom.

The course, conducted on , brought together judokas undergoing technical assessment as part of internationally recognised grading standards. Acting in an examining capacity, Coach Nartey evaluated athletes on the technical execution and principles of Nage no Kata, a fundamental component of judo that preserves the art’s traditional techniques, precision, and philosophy.

Participants who successfully met the required standards were subsequently awarded certification under the authority of the British Judo Association, marking a significant achievement for the candidates and highlighting Ghana’s growing technical presence within the international judo community.

Coach Nartey’s role as examiner reflects the increasing recognition of Ghanaian expertise beyond national borders and demonstrates the Ghana Judo Federation’s commitment to developing highly qualified coaches capable of contributing to global judo education and standards.

His achievement continues to inspire Ghanaian coaches and athletes alike, reinforcing the Federation’s vision of building technical excellence while strengthening international collaboration. As Ghanaian judo expands across grassroots, educational institutions, and elite competition pathways, such milestones affirm that Ghana is not only participating in world judo but actively helping shape its future
